Juniper Wealth Advisors kicked off the celebration of Jane's impressive career with a generous gift to Community Foundation Boulder County's Community Trust Fund in her honor. They are hopeful that their gift will inspire others to do the same.

Congratulations, Jane.

"Without you, Jane, I would never have found the Community Foundation at the end of a year when I was, shall we say, inadequately organized. . . LOL! I have learned so much from you about investment, SRI/ESG, and, above all, about love and friendship. Here's to a dear friend and best of the best advisors! Salud! And much love." -A Longtime Client

"Dear Jane - congratulations on moving to your next phase in life, which I trust you'll approach with the vigor and joy you do everything with! I cannot thank you enough for taking the initiative to help a little impact investment firm navigate a large and ever-growing asset manager, and always pressing us so thoroughly on impact and operational diligence on behalf of your clients. I've learned a lot from you over the last 20 years, as well as a few dance moves. On behalf of all your fans at Calvert Impact Capital, I wish you all the best in retirement. Keep on dancing!" - Justin Conway, Calvert Impact Capital

"Jane is a person whose sincerity and intentionality are clear immediately when you meet her. Jane has personally enriched my life both professionally and personally. Jane has always been ahead of her time. She has operated with principles at the core of her investment philosophy which were also fundamental to her life's values and beliefs. These "truths" are only now years later are being more widely accepted in our industry. Jane has been a recognized leader in what was originally SRI ( Socially Responsible Investing) and more recently has been better defined as ESG ( Environmental Social and Governance). Jane has been a force in this area within our firm and the industry as a whole and I credit her early mentorship as opening my own eyes to the opportunity "to do well while doing good". I am happy to see her embarking on an exciting new chapter with her beloved Tomo and I personally look forward to being able to spend more quality time together with them. Our Industry and firm have been tremendously benefited by having Jane working with us. I enjoy pausing to think of the countless ways Jane has helped her clients, and the clients of others to whom she has mentored and educated, achieve their goals over her career… but almost more profoundly as I pause to think about her impact …it is much broader… I think about the thousands of worthy investments she has made on behalf of clients and how much innovation and benefit they have in turn done for our planet. Jane has left a mark to which she should be very proud. We who have been touch by her need to honor that but continuing the work. On the occasion of her retirement, I want to say thank you to you Jane … words will never express your impact nor my gratitude for the gift of you in my life and our community. I am blessed to know you and to have shared professional time as colleagues… I am excited to see you again soon and follow what you might be "diving" into next!" -Christopher K. Murphy

"Jane has been someone I have had such high respect and admiration for over the last 20+ years. We have interfaced in many ways over the years. We both were involved with the Advisory Board of Urgent Action Fund when it was a small nonprofit coming to Boulder from the San Francisco area, in need of professionals to get it off the ground (they succeeded Makenzie Scott just gave them $20,000,000 https://urgentactionfund.org/2020/12/mackenzie-sco... ). It was there I learned about her passion for philanthropy. Not soon after (or maybe before, it has been so many years!) she referred a high wealth, philanthropic woman to me personally, for tax work, as a relatively young CPA at a local firm. This was the first of many referrals, with Jane sending many more my way, significantly impacting my career trajectory and success. This is when I learned about her passion for helping women, specifically, in supporting and growing their talents. After that, Jane married Tomo and invited me to her wedding. Such a wonderful event at a beautiful venue. It was there I learned that sake in a clear glass on a hot day looks very similar to a cool glass of water, but has dramatically different results when consumed quickly. In the more recent years, Jane and I have collaborated on mutual client accounts for tax/investing/charitable strategies that make the most sense. And explore the client's desires regarding how they invest their monies and overall goals. It was then I learned about her passion for SRI/socially responsible investing. Jane has inspired me in so many ways over the years I cannot enumerate them. I wish her nothing but well deserved relaxation and contentment in her retirement! -Pam Ekrem Vogel, CPA

Jane Lewenthal on Giving with a Generous Heart

Some two decades ago, Jane Lewenthal prepared a speech for Toastmasters – but this was no ordinary speech. It was a speech about giving. It was a speech from the heart.

Titled "Giving with a Generous Heart," Jane's speech drew on her experiences working in the Bay Area, primarily with women of substantial earned or inherited wealth. "I specialize in responsible investing and growing philanthropy," explains Jane, CFP®, CIMA® and recently retired Senior Vice President with Juniper Wealth Advisors. "In my talk, I said many things about how to develop a generous heart … which doesn't necessarily mean giving more.

"Rather, the more we practice a sense of generosity, the happier we are."

Said Jane in her speech, "…the development of our generous hearts does not depend upon our bankbook or investment accounts. It depends upon how closely we pay attention to ourselves and to what leads to happiness for others and for ourselves.

Indeed, according to Jane—who also practices Zen Buddhism—giving with a generous heart means giving with a sense of abundance and good-will, not giving so much that one's well-being is jeopardized and not giving with a sense of obligation. She recommends pausing when there is an opportunity to give and noticing if you are experiencing resistance due to clinging or a sense of scarcity or have a feeling of obligation. If ever a warning sense arises, don't automatically yield to it and don't brush past it. Doing either will sabotage your intention to develop a more generous and happy heart. Instead, sit with what's going on and listen to your heart. Not think…..listen……and feel your body sense as you explore options. Do not give more than what you can give with a generous heart. Over time, what we can share with this sense of abundance increases and we give with happiness. Can you think of a generous person who's not also happy? Jane can't.

Having moved here in 1992, Jane is well aware of the persistent TRENDS statistic that Colorado has the lowest giving ratio among surrounding Western states. "All the more reason to emphasize the practice of intentionally paying attention to developing our own generous heart," she says. "It isn't that we start with a generous heart and then give. It's that we develop a generous heart and expand it."
